January 2017 President's Message
I had a great New York Cycle Club 2016 . . . . . . .
Springtime came and I got to ride with the B SIG – so much fun. Week in and week out, the leaders of the B SIG, the participants, so welcoming, so gracious, made me feel like I had been a B SIGGIE forever. Made me feel warm inside. Thank you B SIG for a great spring of riding with the nicest people ever.
The Berkshires on Memorial Day weekend. Every time I go, it’s the best ever. How ‘bout that vegan pig roast? And the riding, no matter what road you ride on, it’s beautiful. A rides, B rides, C rides for all. Parties in the evening. What could be better?
I got to ride with Major Taylor Iron Riders to Montauk Point. Whoa! What a ride. It’s put-your- head-down-and-ride, get to Montauk. Two stops, about 40 miles apart, fill your water bottles and stuff bananas in your mouth - get back on your bike. If you like that kind of ride – I really do - this is the best. A glorious picnic greeted us at the lighthouse at the finish. The Major Taylor Iron Riders - they are about the nicest group of cyclists ever.
Morning laps in Central Park – they have become a central component to my cycling season. Year in and year out, round and round and round the park. 3, 4 days a week; March through November. How could that possibly be fun? Round and round and round. I have the answer – it’s the people in the group. Morning laps – we are family.
The people along the way – whether it was on the B SIG, Major Taylor Iron Riders, laps in the park, or a Club ride to Nyack on Saturday – the people make the adventures great.
I invite you all to come along in 2017 and make the best friends of your life. Also, come for a bike ride.
Happy new year.
