I just wanted to let everyone know, even if you already do, what a great person Herb is.
Yesterday on the A-19 SIG, I was slowed and stopped repeatedly by a vicious case of leg cramps to both quads and one hamstring. Through it all Herb was there helping me. I if needed to stop, we stopped. If I needed to walk a bit, he stayed near. If I need him to hold the bike so I could sitdown, he did. It was almost comical if it wasn't so painful.
Because of his help, patience and encouragement, once he got me over the GWB, I was finally able to ride the rest of the way back.
So my thanks to Herb Dershowitz.....being everything the NYCC can be proud of.

Thanks to Herb Dershowitz
Rick, as you know I was one of the leaders on your ride Saturday. It was no mere chance that Herb stayed with you. The moment he saw you struggling, he discreetly -- and cheerfully -- indicated to the other ride leaders that he would take care of you.
While Herb is indeed in a class by his own, I will attest to having received such treatment from a number of other leaders (like Bob Mirell and Tim McCarthy). It's thanks to such leaders that I got hooked on cycling and the NYCC. Sounds like the club might have yet another true believer - you.
See you next weekend.
Charlie
Herb is great. When I first joined the NYCC in the late 80's/early 90's, he stayed with me when I got dropped on those fast B rides. He's a very generous, warm hearted person.
To bad he can't play pool to save his life :)
Herb's the best!

Some people actually give more than they take. Herb is one. I ran across him last year at a New York Road Runners event. He was volunteering his time. He is a member of NYRR but hasn't run in many years due to an injury. That didn't stop him from helping out. I don't know him too well but I have never seen him as part of a problem. He has always been a positive force.
Are you all nuts? Herb's a bum!
The biggest in the business, I tell ya. I only hope I can be as much of a bum when I grow . . . up.
"RICK, A quick bottle of tomato juice or V-8 usually overcomes cramps. Plan ahead, for yourself - and everyone else too. Also, ride lots and stretch. Lucky that Herb - a salt of the earth guy - was there.
CHRISTY, hard to tell if you are joking. A "";-)"" might help. Are you smoking herb? ;-)
For the record, I AM nutzen. I am also a bum, so, with Herb, I'm in good company.
Andiamo, John"
