I'm still waiting for my 2016

I'm still waiting for my 2016 B Badge too.  I brought the issue up to Christy in 2016....he didn't want to follow up on it.  Wasn't important enough.  I know when I'm in a losing battle, so I just dropped it, and it really wasn't going to affect my life anyway. But, in my opinion, the badge policy should be dropped if they can't adhere to it for all who earned it. (For those who don't like my comment, I would appreciate your not bashing me (as is so often done on this MB).  This is just my opinion.) To me, the badge itself isn't important, the inequity is.

That's not fair Cheryl. It's

That's not fair Cheryl. It's also not accurate. I personally followed up with the SIG leaders - those who submitted the names of SIG grads, those grads were awarded badges. There was zero inequity - the leaders who submitted the names, those people got badges. Didn't matter if they were A riders, B riders, or C riders. If we had their name, they got a badge - simple as that. I am sorry, I did not bring my shot gun with me and as a result, was unable to "force" SIG leaders to make a list of grads and turn them over. The SIG leaders work hard developing the programs, leading rides week in and week out, helping countless club members become better cyclists. I'm a sensitive guy, a bit of a sissy, I find it tough to constantly badger our hard working SIG leaders to make a list of grads so they can get badges. After a while, I stopped badgering. Sorry if that makes me a bad President. As a matter of fact, I was one of the leaders of the C SIG in 2017 and I didn't get my badge. I'm telling you, there's going to be hell to pay for that .

And I must say, for someone who doesn't feel the badges are that big of a deal in their life - you sure have made a big issue of them. One idea, instead of taking time to make a big issue of the badges and telling other volunteers what they should be doing, how 'bout volunteering to work with your SIG leaders to create the list of grads and get the list to our webmaster who would be pleased to issue badges - if he only knew who to issue them to. We're a 100% volunteer organization. You knew that, right? Ask Tracy, maybe she can help you.

Love,
Christy

Slow times at NYCC High

My feeling is that the badges are useful; for instance, when you’re looking for a co-leader and for someone who’s done a SIG and (hopefully) follows the same rules of the road.

And the equity thing is important, too.

I also think that there are plenty of awards handed out more or less arbitrarily—or so it seems. The badges at least represent a quantifiable achievement. You don’t have to be a favorite of anyone, you just have to complete the SIG.

I have taken this up with every B SIG leader, and with Jorge, our hardworking webmaster, but the buck just gets passed. Perhaps there is something we’re not being told.

What is the correct procedure to get the badges posted?

I am the B16 Captain for the BSIG which means that the B16 leaders give me the names of all the B16 siggies from their respective teams who will graduate at the end of the SIG.  I compile those names along with their info and give them to Fred Leffel, the BSIG Coordinator right before the BSIG graduation ceremony. Am I supposed to give the names of the B16 Grads to the Webmaster or does Fred give the names of all the BSIG grads to him? No one as ever asked me for this information.

I would like to know what the procedure is to get the badges posted because I’ve been asked by B16 grads more than once how to get their badges. It’s nice to have a symbol of what you’ve accomplished next to your name on the Club roster.  Thanks, Valli

Thanks Valli for following up

Thanks Valli for following up on this.  I know you/and all the other leaders are proud to submit their graduates every year.

Fact check:  Christy's words :  ""I personally followed up with the SIG leaders - those who submitted the names of SIG grads, those grads were awarded badges. There was zero inequity - the leaders who submitted the names, those people got badges. Didn't matter if they were A riders, B riders, or C riders. If we had their name, they got a badge - simple as that".

NOT TRUE.

Christy, please stop pointing fingers at people and blaming other people.  That isn't necessary...I'm sure no one intended to create a problem, it just needs to be rectified.   As President, I am sure you can follow up on this. Thanks.

I don't believe the C-SIG was ever asked to submit names for badges. I'd be happy to comply if I knew where to submit them.

We have a plan. . . .

Yeah! We have a volunteer who has stepped forward to help with this project. We are going to put a plan in place that will hopefully bring us up to date with the badges.

Thanks for letting us know how important the badges really are to you. And a special thanks for the fun message board posting. Ugh!

I'll keep you informed.
Promise.

SIG Graduation Badges

Hello,

My name is Jorge Negrin and I am the webmaster.  I am the person responsible for giving members their SIG badges.  I depend on the SIG Captains to provide us with a graduation list but the responsibility of getting the badges is mine.  Although there are reasons we are so late there is no excuse for it.  I apologize for the delay this year.

We just completed the 2017 SIG Badges assignments today for the A classic SIG, A SIG, and B SIG.  The C SIG is in progress and I hope to have it completed this week.

Since our information may not be perfect please email me directly at webmaster@nycc.org is you should have received a 2017 SIG Badge and have not gotten it.  Please CC you ride leader and let me know which SIG you completed.  Please include 2017 SIG Badges in your subject heading. Please only do this for 2017 and if you are missing your badge.

For 2016 SIG badges, I was not involved at that time but please email me directly at webmaster@nycc.org is you should have received a 2016 SIG Badge and have not gotten it.  Please CC you ride leader and let me know which SIG you completed.  Please include 2016 SIG Badges in your subject heading. Please only do this for 2016 and if you are missing your badge.

Completing a SIG is a great accomplishment, and as a long standing SIG leader it is something I feel you should take pride in.

Thank You
