Hi - I just signed up for the newsletter and am really looking forward to it. However - why must we provide Age and Gender when subscribing? What will this information we used for?

Hi Mim,

As the newsletter currently has more than 8,000 subscribers and is still growing, we would like to know more about people who are interested in cycling around NYC. The majority of the subscribers are in fact not club members and we have no other opportunity to learn about them other than during newsletter signups.

NYCC also has women and men race teams and occasionaly the club produces segmented happenings or content to encourage stronger bonding among different groups of members. For example, last year the club had a young members event. Having more information about newsletter subscribers can help us feature more relevant content for prospective members and perhaps in the future, as the club grows, more special programs for existing ones.

Best,

Gil

We do not discriminate

Just to be clear, although we ask for lots of information, as Gil points out, so we can better serve our members, we do not discriminate on any basis other than a person's interest in cycling. A brief look at any of our larger rides -- ENY, Newcomers, All-Class, SIGS etc. makes this clear.

Ok great. Thanks for the

Ok great. Thanks for the responses. May I suggest that this information shouldn’t be mandatory to sign up for the newsletter then, and rather voluntary? To me - it feels a little invasive and unnecessary, especially to a club who aims to be welcoming to all, and not targeted to any particular group?
